Core survival loop
Grounded 2 follows the survival template Obsidian made famous: gather resources, craft tools and gear, build a base, and explore. You are shrunk to the size of an ant inside Brookhollow Park — sprawling manmade playground spaces overgrown with nature. Along the way you’ll fight insects, discover labs and POIs, and chase a mystery that watches you.
Buggies and archetypes
Two systems set Grounded 2 apart:
- Buggies — insect companions you hatch, raise and ride, used for transport, combat and resource gathering. See the Buggies guide.
- Archetypes — character classes with distinct abilities. Obsidian describes them as precision, cunning or strength-based approaches. See the archetypes guide.
Building on land and underwater
Base building is a core loop, and Grounded 2 adds fully underwater base building — a headline feature of the sequel. Playgrounds mode also lets the community create and share challenges built around combat, puzzles and unpredictable encounters.
Mods and console commands (unconfirmed)
There is no official documentation for a mod menu or developer console in Grounded 2. Any guides promising a “mod menu” or “console menu” for the current build should be treated as unverified until Obsidian confirms support.
Player questions
What kind of game is Grounded 2?
A co-op survival game: you're shrunk to ant size and must gather, craft, build and fight to survive Brookhollow Park. Up to 4 players can play online together.
Is Grounded 2 like the original Grounded?
It keeps the tiny-survival core but moves to a much larger park setting, and adds insect mounts (Buggies), character archetypes and underwater base building.
Does Grounded 2 have mods or a console?
Unconfirmed — Obsidian hasn't officially documented mod support or a developer console for Grounded 2. Claims of a mod or console menu should be treated as unverified.
